Double dental medicine summit in Idar-Oberstein: Endodontics & jaw trauma with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ana Nemec

What a week at the doc4pets Academy! From Thursday to Saturday, everything in Idar-Oberstein revolved around top-level international dentistry. With Assistant Professor Dr. Ana Nemec, DVM, PhD, Dipl. AVDC, Dipl. EVDC, we were able to secure one of the most renowned specialists in veterinary dentistry – and she inspired our participants with two intensive course formats packed with expert knowledge and plenty of practical application.

Day 1 & 2: Endodontics Course – Canal by Canal to Perfection

On Thursday and Friday, the focus was on endodontics. In a small group of no more than four participants, the course covered everything from diagnosing dental trauma and preparing for total pulpectomy to the practical preparation and obturation of the root canal in a canine tooth. The first day consisted of eight hours of theory and practice, followed by three and a half hours of in-depth exercises and case discussions on the second day – including discussions of the participants' own radiographs. The course was fully booked well in advance, a clear indication of the high demand for sound endodontic knowledge in small animal medicine.

Day 3: Emergency management of jaw trauma – when speed is essential

Saturday saw the second part of the course: a packed day focused on the initial care and surgical treatment of jaw trauma in dogs and cats. From repairing symphysis separation and rigid and functional maxillomandibular fixation to treating mandibular fractures using the Risdon/Stout technique and palatal separation according to von Langenbeck – the ten participants practiced these techniques hands-on and evaluated radiographs together. This highly practical program demonstrates why our continuing education courses can truly be applied directly in practice on Monday.
